ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A school building and a conference hall for the customs department have been completed in Zaranj, the provincial capital of southwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Sunday.

Educationinfo-icon Director Abdul Wahid Hikmat told Pajhwok Afghan News a building for the Farkhi Primary School in Zaranj was constructed with financial support from the Worldinfo-icon Bank.

He said 800 students were enrolled at the school, which was previously housed in tents. Small makeshift rooms were used as classrooms, causing students several problems.

The department says 90,000 students, including 35,000 girls, are enrolled in 160 schools across Nimroz, where 40 percent of schools still lack proper buildings.

Meanwhile, a conference hall worth of three million afghanis for the customs department was also inaugurated.

Custom Director Mohammad Wais Sultani said the hall, 18 metres long and six metres wide, was funded by the Ministry of Finance and support from national traders.

One of traders, Mohammad Daud, said there was no proper place for conferences and foreign guests. Therefore, they coordinated with the department on constructing the hall.
