ALP personnel among 8 killed in Kunduz firefight

ALP personnel among 8 killed in Kunduz firefight

Nov 04, 2015 - 13:48

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Three Afghan Local Police (ALP) members and five Talibaninfo-icon were killed during a clash in the Imaminfo-icon Sahib district of northern Kunduz province, an official said on Wednesday.

The firefight erupted after the Taliban tried to storm police check-posts in Qarghan Tapa and Jovi Bigam localities, Amanuddin Quraishi, the town’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said ALP Commander Aziz Khalqi was among those killed during the attack. The remaining security officials had fled the area, he said.

Quraishi said the clash happened late on Tuesday in the area, where the insurgents were still present. But a clearing operation could not kick off so far, he added.

Separately, the Taliban said the fighters had killed at least six security officials, wounded 10 others and seized vehicles and other military equipment in Dasht-i-Archi district, a claim rejected by the security forces.
