Abdullah asks authorities to assess quake damage

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Saturday asked the authorities concerned to assess the damage and injuries to people caused by Friday night’s earthquake in Afghanistaninfo-icon.
The 6.3 magnitude quake centered in Ishkashim district of northeastern Badakhshan province struck eastern, northeastern, central and southeastern parts of Afghanistan at around 11:44pm.
Initial reports suggested that the quake had injured a dozen people in Nangarhar and demaged 280 houses in Badakhshan.
During a meeting with Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) officials, Abdullah said some of citizens had been injured and others suffered financial losses in the trembler.
He asked the departments concerned to assist the injured and affected people and instructed ANDMA officials to launch assessment of exact losses from the quake.
The air pollution in Kabul caused by burning of tyres was also discussed at the meeting and measures were recommended for mitigating air pollution in Kabul.
The quake sent people pouring into the streets late Friday night in Kabul, but most returned to their homes due to the cold winter weather.
