Mar 31, 2016 - 17:22

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani on Thursday said Afghanistaninfo-icon and Pakistaninfo-icon should cooperate with efforts for bringing peace to the region and forging economic links.

Addressing a function at the Pakistani embassy in Kabul, Rabbani underlined the need for Kabul and Islamabad to join hands for ensuring peace and security in the region.

Civil and military officials of different countries, Afghan parliamentarians, government and functionaries and traders participated in the event.

“If we don’t cooperate in maintaining peace, both countries will be damaged by insecurity,” he the foreign minister warned, saying stability in the two counties meantstability across the worldinfo-icon.

The two countries should also deepen economic links, he suggested, calling TAPI and CASA-1000 two important energy projects that would immensely benefit Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s Ambassador Syed Ibrar Husainsaid that his country was fully supportive of the Afghan peace drive. He agreed the neighbours, faced with common challenges, should jointly work to deal with the problems.

“Pakistan and Afghanistan are friendly and brotherly countries. Pakistanis helped the Afghan brethren during the jihadinfo-icon against the Soviets,” acknowledged former president Sibghatullah Mujaddedi.

“May Allah bring (Gulbadin) Hikmatyar back to the political arena; he had gone to mountains without any reason. But now he has to return because it is his own country,” Mujaddedi remarked.
