Security forces among 21 dead in fresh bout of violence

TIRIN-KOT/ KANDAHAR, MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Nineteen Talibaninfo-icon and two security forces have been killed and 23 militants wounded in separate incidents of violence in different parts of the country, officials said on Monday.

Nine militants were killed and 17 others wounded during overnight clash between security forces and the Taliban in central Uruzgan province, said Police Chief Brig. Gen. Wali Jan Sarhadi, A policeman was killed and two other wounded in the gun battle.

Separately, six Taliban have been killed and two others wounded in Kandalo area of Shah Wali Kot district in Kandahar province, said Samim Khapalwak, the governor’s spokesman.

He said the fire fight erupted after the militants attacked security forces check-post last night. One civilian was killed and two others wounded during the clash, he added.

 In eastern Laghman, four Taliban, including the group’s shadow district Chief Qahir Akhunzad and his brother Shir Zaman, were killed and as many wounded during militants attack on Afghan forces check-post in Bad Pakh district, said Sarhadi Zwak, the governor’s spokesman.

An Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was killed and three others wounded in the clash.

Taliban have not yet commented about the incidents.
