Terminal inaugurated in Shiberghan, fire brigade building in Zaranj

SHIBERGHAN/ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Aterminal worth 10million afghanis has been inaugurated in Shiberghan, the capital of northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Monday.

With the capacity to accommodate contain 100 cars at a time, the terminal offers travel facilities to Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of neighbouring Balkh province, as well asthe Aqcha district of Jawzjan.

Beheshta Fida, head of provincial infrastructure committee, told Pajhwok News with the completion of this project, people would not face any problem in catching passenger vehicles.

She said the terminal was equipped with all needed facilitieslike sheds for vehicles, washrooms for passengers, canteens and offices for travel agencies. Drivers can also be benefit from the terminal.

Beheshta Fida added seven million afghanis had been donated by the United States Agency for International Development (USAIDinfo-icon) for the project and three million afghanis by the municipality.

She said 14,000 afghanis to be collected in tax from the terminal would be used for its maintenance.

Meanwhile, provincial council member Babur Eshjihoped the terminal would help resolve problem of drivers and passengers. Previously, drivers had to park their vehicles in an inappropriate place.

Turdi Murad, a Shiberghan resident,acknowledged many useful programmeshad been implemented by the municipality last year.

In the southwestern province of Nimroz, a new building was inaugurated for the fire brigade department. Police chief Brig. Gen. Ghulam Jilani Abu Bakkar said the project took eight months to complete.

This two-storey building, constructed on 580 square meters, has fire-fighting tools and personnel, internet, electricity, a water system, a parking lot and separate rooms.

Head of fire department Mohammad Tahir said, 24 million afghanis provided by the Ministry of Interior had been spent on the building. The old fire station had only two rooms and its personnel faced many problems.
