KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said honouring the country’s Constitution Day meant celebrating Afghanistaninfo-icon independent, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The president expressed the view at a gathering that marked the Constitution Day at Presidential Palace late on Thursday.

Ghani stressed the need for the implementation of constitution, while participants of the even lambasted the government for violating the country’s supreme law.  

The president said in line with the constitution the people of Afghanistan were equally titled to their rights, the country’s system was Islamic republic and nobody could enforce power through means of violence.

He said according to the constitution executive, legislature and judiciary were independent in their own affairs and no institution could interfere in one another matters. He said he was proud for implementing the constitution on himself.

Ghani said in line with the law a new state medal would be introduced under the title of Constitution Medal which would be conferred to individuals who implement constitution the most.

Comprised of 12 Chapters and 162 articles the country’s constitution was endorsed by Loya Jirgainfo-icon in January 2003.
