WI beat Afghanistan by 29 runs in 2nd T-20

WI beat Afghanistan by 29 runs in 2nd T-20

Jun 04, 2017 - 09:50

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): West Indies (WI) on Sunday secured the three match series by 2-0 after beating Afghanistaninfo-icon by 29 runs in the second Twenty-Twenty (T-20) match played at Warner Park in Basseterre.

West Indies won the toss and decided to bat first.

The hosts set a target of 112 for 3 in 15 overs after rain took away nearly two hours from the fixture. Lewis and Samuels made quick twenties, after wicketkeeper-batsman Chadwick Walton had powered West Indies to a brisk start.

Rashid Khan, Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib put in strong performances in what would be the second half of West Indies' innings to pull things back though, and the feeling after the first innings was that Afghanistan had reversed the advantage.

Afghanistan's chase was a scattered display of anxiety against pace and hare-brained running - perhaps the two were correlated. They slipped to 19 for 3 quickly and the recovery never came.

Afghanistan batsmen all out on 93 only Karim Janat scored 20, Gulbadin Naib 12 and Najibullah Zadran 11 but did not chase the target and lost their second match.
