Pakistan to begin registering illegal Afghans from Aug 12

Jul 22, 2017 - 20:11

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): As many as 700,000 Afghan refugees living in Pakistaninfo-icon without legal documents would be issued new registration cards in Pakistan, a statement from the Ministry of Refugee and Repatriation in Kabul said on Saturday.

A test process of registering the refugees in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province would continue for six months. Earlier Pakistan’s   Ministry of State and Frontier Regions and some provincial governments had reached an agreement on the registration.

Some 25 Afghan officials may visit neighboring Pakistan to observe the registration process of Afghan refugees, according to the statement.

The process would formally be launched from August 12 in different provinces of Pakistan as 25 centers across the country would be established to register Afghan refugees throughout the country.

Those who failed to renew their refugee cards in 2012, or submitted their cards during the repatriation process, were unable to come to Afghanistaninfo-icon.

In addition those who in the past had been unable to get refugee cards could get new cards this time.

Afghans whose Pakistani identity cards were canceled or those wanted to revoke their Pakistani identity cards could be able to get new refugees cards this time.
