Media professionalism at slow pace: Sancharaki

Aug 15, 2017 - 20:57

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Secretary Information and Broadcasting Syed Aqa Hussain Sancharaki on Tuesday said though the number of media outlets had increased in the country, their pace of becoming professional had been slow.

Addressing a seminar “History of media in Afghanistaninfo-icon” at the auditorium of Radio Afghanistan here, Sanchakari said some media outlets were involved in fueling ethnic differences and creating fronts.

He said in the past 16 years some 1,200 media outlets were issued work licenses and around 668 had been working without proper documents.

He said media outlets were working towards professionalism and had some improvement but more work was required to improve media language and behavior.

Sancharaki said the lack of security was a huge challenge amid growing influence of political parties in the media.

Sediqullah Tawhidi, a member of the Journalists Safety Committee, said media development in the country was a positive step.

He said accused some media organizations for being unprofessional and dependable.

The entry of young professional journalists in the media gave hope that more professional approach would be adopted in future by the media.
