NDS releases Balkh PC member Asif Momand

Aug 17, 2017 - 16:33

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Balkh Provincial Council (PC) member Mohammad Asif Momand left for Kabulinfo-icon on Thursday following his release by the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon).

Mustafa Momand, a brother of the public representative, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News his brother’s release at around 3:00pm from the custody of the intelligence service. Soon afterwards, he left Mazar-i-Sharif for Kabul.

Earlier, Momand was not allowed to leave the Balkh Airport by security forces. Momand, in a telephonic contact with this news agency, said the Balkh governor wanted to arrest him.

Mustafa Momand said his brother’s two bodyguards were killed during the incident at the Balkh airport, where, Momand was detained. Two police personnel were also injured in gunfire by Noor’s private militiamen.

Asif Momand recently claimed having ‘enough evidence’ to prove Governor Atta Mohammad Noor’s involvement in massive corruption.

He told a press conference in Kabul he had been living in the capital over the past three months after Noor threatened him with death for exposing his corruption.

“Administrative corruption has reached its peak in Balkh departments. No one cared to address the menace despite our protest,” he alleged.
