Noor ordered sons, guards to beat me: Momand

Noor ordered sons, guards to beat me: Momand

Aug 18, 2017 - 15:16

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Public representative Mohammad Asif Momand has said he was beaten and maltreated by sons and guards of the governor of northern Balkh province after his arrest from the airport, a claim the governor’s aide rejected.

Momand, a member of the Balkh provincial council after his release by the National Directorate of Security, told reporters in Kabul on Thursday noon that one of his guards was killed and three others were wounded when private guards of Governor Atta Mohammad Noor wanted to arrest him at the airport in Mazar-i-Sharif.

He said the governor’s armed men took him to Noor’s home from the airport and was questioned and beaten there. “The governor ordered his sons and guards to beat me. His son Tariq Noor chopped off my ear with his teeth. The governor asked his secretary to hit me and he hit me in the head and the governor put his foot on my chest and asked “you have waged this plot at the behest of the national security advisor, the spymaster or the president.”

He said he told the governor that he did not need to take orders from others. Momand renewed his corruption allegations against Noor and he had arrived in Kabul to summit documents against the governor with the Attorney General’s Office.

“After one hour of my detention, my mobile, passport and 4100 dollars were taken from my pocket and the governor asked his secretary to finish me, but later the governor changed his mind and handed me over the NDSinfo-icon.”

He said he had been under treatment at the NDS office in Balkh and had not been asked questions there. He said his driver wanted to pick him in an armored vehicle from the airport, but his driver and the vehicle went missing after reaching at the airport security gate.

The public representative asked the government to investigate his case and share the results with the people otherwise he would launch a protest movement.

But Noor’s spokesman, Munir Farhad, rejected all allegations of Momand and said the PC member seemed to be beaten by other people.

Farhad had previous said Momand was arrested by security forces based on a letter from the border police to the provincial NDS office over his forged business documents.

The AGO has said the issue is being investigated by a high level delegation appointed by the president. The delegation has reached Balkh.
