All cars being registered nationwide: MoI

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Sunday said all vehicles, including non-custom paid (NCP), would be registered in a computerized database nationwide over the next six months.

Mohammad Amin Karim, deputy interior minister, told reporters here that the registration of vehicles would improve security situation in the country.

“We will register NPC cars first because these cars are mostly used by suicide attackers to avoid being tracked. Number plates of cars used in suicide bombings were always fake,” he said.

Karim said all vehicles in the country would be registered in the computerized data in line with the National Security Council (NSC)’s 89 and 93 codes.

“This process will take six months and the time may be extended if needed,” he added.

Hamayon Muhtat, head of electronic identity cards office, also said suicide attacks were carried with cars whose owners could not be identified but the cars computerized registration would resolve the problem.

He said 80 officers, who had received special training in registration of vehicles, would be sent to provinces with needed equipment and materials tomorrow (Monday) to start the registration process.
